Yeah labor would account for some more but we really dont even know if the timbering was even done. I assume it was like most here but there are no real facts to back them up.
Besides.... even 100K board feet of timbers does not add up to much tunnel work if you understnd how board feet work.
if the tunnel is 10 feet tall and 20 feet wide there are 40 board feet involved. At 100K board feet that would be 2500 boards.
If each board is 1 foot wide that would be 2500 feet of tunnel rehab for that much lumber.
I believe the usage was 50K board feet and if the boards are half a foot then the rehab was 600 feet of tunnel.
Total rehab would be between 600 and 2400 feet
Really not much for the millions spent even if you use the larger numbers and only 6.5 MILES of tunnel left to rehab
