Nobody ever claimed that mice wouldn't be harmed. But according to rearden's notes Dr. Seymour did claim that dogs wouldn't be harmed, which was apparently of significance to some people.

Me, I accept the reality that drug development requires killing a lot of rodents and dogs. Maybe that's not how it would be in a perfect world but this isn't a perfect world. I don't lose a lot of sleep over it.
