SoFIA Performance Expectations:

Based on looking at Icestorm scores for SOC's with the same graphics engine, here are some expectations:

- Atom X3 C3130 (3G): Mali 400-MP2: 2-3k
- Atom X3 C3230RK (3G): Mali 450-MP4: 7+k
- Atom X3 C3440 (LTE): Mali 720-MP2: 8-9k (Mali 760-MP2 is getting 10+k, but need to discount, since the 720 has half the pixel rate)

For what it's worth, the Mediatek MT6752 has Mali 760-MP2, so seems that Intel chose a slightly weaker graphics engine. I don't expect them to get any better frequencies, since they are essentially using the same TSMC 28nm process. So they may be about 10-20% behind in performance.

These are not speed demons, but seem inline with devices in the lower price ranges where they are being targeted. I'm interested in seeing how much traction Intel gets with these parts. Mediatek is a pretty well established vendor, but these are the first time Intel gets within line of sight with a competitive part.

My expectation is that there might be some opportunity for SoFIA at the right price.

- Atom X3 C3130 (3G): $50-75 (integrated 3G worth about $10-20)
- Atom X3 C3230RK (3G): $75-125 (integrated 3G worth about $10-20)
- Atom X3 C3440 (LTE): $99-149 (integrated LTE worth about $25-50)

I think for tablets and phones in these price ranges, Intel should see some good MSS opportunities. They won't win the market overnight, but I'm hoping to see a 20% footprint in the first year, at least.

I think they're already beyond this in tablets.
