I have started numerous robotic programs and also have performed over 5000 laparoscopic procedures in my 30 year surgical career. Not to mention 4500 open procedures as well.
I know some of the top executives at Titan from personal experience but am no longer in touch.
Here is what I know:
1. The current technology is a marvelous revolution and is a significant leap forward toward the ultimate answer, that being a single incision multi arm snake device that allows for at least the precision and vision and comfort that is available now.
2. Only one product on the market now is worth even mentioning in the entire robotic surgical discussion.
3. Titan may or may not have all that they propose to have, but Dennis Fowler is the real thing!
He is an extremely talented surgeon and his integrity is beyond reproach.
If he is at all responsible here, Titan will produce what it claims that it will produce.
4. The other device that involves standing at the bedside is a complete nonstarter. Has absolutely no use to me and really will be a relic soon.
5. The future of surgery is a computer assisted model.
I've lived through the initiation of the laparoscopic revolution and witnesses the identical arguments made against robotics today. The outcome was never in doubt.
