Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) made big gains in graphics processing units in Q4. Its GPU market share rose to 71.4% from 66.8% in the year-earlier period, JPR said. No. 2 vendor Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) slipped a little in the GPU market last quarter. Its market share declined to 15% from 15.7%. AMD fell to No. 3 with a 13.6% market share, down from 17.3% in Q4 2013.

In addition to losing share in the GPU market, AMD also lost share last quarter in the graphics add-in board market. Add-in boards represent the high end of the graphics industry using discrete chips and private high-speed memory, as compared with the integrated GPUs in central processing units that share slower system memory. AMD had 24% share of the add-in board market in Q4, down from 35% in the year-earlier period.
Market leader Nvidia grabbed 76% market share in Q4, up from 64.9%.
