ENGlobal Corp.’s (ENG) Who’s Who; the Minds behind Decades of Success in Engineering & Automation

As a broadcasting industry executive in the so-called “formative years” of television in the United States, Donald McGannon knew a bit about leadership. Hence his quote on the matter: “Leadership is an action, not a position.” The requirement for quality management in today’s cut-throat, high-octane business world confirms McGannon’s words. Without sound leadership, businesses crumble rather than adapt through adversity, fail to recognize and/or achieve their potential, and lack the foundation needed to envision, build and thrive.

When a prudent investor considers an investment opportunity his due diligence extends beyond balance sheets, business plans and corporate history. His research takes him to the decision makers behind the wheel – to the ones facilitating action. A track-record of managerial success is a key indicator that a company is operating in good hands.

In 1985, William A. Coskey founded the energy-related automation and engineering services company ENGlobal Corp. for which he is currently president and chief executive officer. An honors graduate of Texas A&M University, Coskey received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1975. Since 1999 he has served on the Texas A&M University Electrical Engineering Department Advisory Council, and in 2006 when he became chairman of the council, Coskey offered to Texas A&M’s Mays Business School his own “nugget of wisdom” regarding leadership:

“Do something remarkable aim high and create a fast-paced and fun environment. Hire really good people and trust them to do their jobs. Reward the high achievers and find those rewards early on.”

Nine years later, Coskey’s words are still cemented on the university’s website and provide incredible insight to the caliber of active leadership he has maintained throughout the year and continues to provide to ENGlobal to this day.

As a top-ranked and award-winning provider of energy-related automation and engineering services, ENGlobal delivers innovative, energy-related automation integration services and EPCM (engineering, procurement and construction management) projects for clients worldwide. Operating through two strategic business segments, ENGlobal provides its services to the energy and government sectors throughout the world. It goes without saying the energy industry is a burgeoning and competitive field; maintaining a 30-year tenure in this industry requires incredible fortitude, discretion and the ability to build a team of exceptional personnel.

ENGlobal’s director of human resources (HR), Scott Curd, is tasked with the responsibility of helping Coskey build and retain a team of qualified professionals aligned with the corporate mission and effective in executing the decided plan. Curd joined ENGlobal in November 2011 and was appointed director of HR the following year. Curd has more than 30 years of human resources and has managed HR operations ranging from $50 million to $6.8 billion in both domestic and international locations, including the Middle East and Iraq. Prior to joining ENGlobal, Curd spent 14 years with KBR as senior human resources manager and was director of HR for CDI Engineering and Audubon Engineering.

Through the course of its history, Coskey has navigated ENGlobal through industry-wide and company-specific highs and lows. The buoyance of the company can, in part, be attributed to Mike Harrison, who in 2009 joined the company as senior vice president of business development and immediately began contributing more than 25 years of business development experience within the engineering and construction industries. Among other achievements, Harrison chaired the Annual Conference for the Rice University Global Forum for Engineering & Construction in 2012 and 2013 and he remains on the board of directors for this organization.

Another unarguable component of a successful business is financial leadership. ENGlobal Chief Financial Officer Mark A. Hess served as the company’s corporate control from July 2011 until he assumed his current post in the fall of 2012. Hess is a CPA, holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Houston and is an active member of Financial Executives International (FEI).

It’s worth noting that in November 2014, ENGlobal reported its fourth consecutive quarter of profitability and an increase of 17% in quarterly revenues.

In its three decades of operations, ENGlobal has created a global workforce of more than 400 industry leaders in a variety of fields, ranging from drafters and designers to technical specialists. Spearheaded by an active leader, ENGlobal’s highly experienced management team has demonstrated its ability to lay and build upon a solid foundation and consistently grow company value.
