Happy Birthday to me.
Yes – its my birthday. I am nearly all grown up and wearing long pants now. And I am nearly old enough to get my driving licence. Today I turn 15.
15 years ago, on the 22 February 2000, I first went to the bank to invest in this company. Well it wasn’t exactly this company back then. It was FastEcom, a company that wanted us to invest in a booth that operated much the same as many now seen in post offices, where you can make all manner of transactions and pay bills etc. These were to be set up in major shopping centres across the USA. Then there was SmartMicrochip, the precursor to Smartmetric. Bygones!
So here we are, on my birthday, and I have been to the well many more times since that first time, and invested a bucket load of money for a company and product I once believed in. Many of you will think I am nuts for doing that, and there are plenty more too that wonder why you did it also. Perhaps we should all have a good hard look at ourselves.
And after all this time I can say I truly believe we are no closer to world domination through our credit cards, other cards, medical key ring , bitcoins, all those products allegedly just around the corner. You can argue with me on this point if you like, but unless we get funding for production we may as well be at the same point we were 15 years ago – nowhere, dreaming. Now, though, we have all those people working in factories all over the world. We all know someone has had a dream ride though don’t we?! Livin’ the dream… I think back to the poor person who invested a vast sum a few years ago to get us over the last hurdle. Did First Class Travel burn that inject? Now we need to invest more again, and again, and again...
Is anyone to be believed? We have all those clients waiting, all those contracts in folders waiting to be signed, all those phones calls each week from prospective buyers. Uh-huh. Right! It matters not what our illustrious leader says, or any of the self-appointed Smartmetric gurus on this and other boards, or those supposedly “in the know” both in Oz and USA. There has not been a whole lot of truth evident thus far. I used to believe we were on a winner, and now I don’t, but I hope I’m wrong.
Join with me if you will, and celebrate a wondrous 15 year ride that has gotten us to this point. What a joy its been eh!?
