Not a few months, they are 5 years behind their goals.
In July of 2009 they sold 2 Mark 5 engines with a promised delivery of six months (i.e., January 2010).
In fact, they were so sure they engines would work they agreed to a $25,000 per month penalty clause for delivery after 9 months.
They ended up paying out the maximum $400K in penalties, and never delivered those Mark 5 engines to that customer.
January 2015 marked the 5th anniversary of the original promised delivery date. Frankie even promised 30 day delivery this past December 30th on the two Mark 5 engines Combilift ordered in 2011, yet that deadline has now passed, too.
Here's a challenge: find a single reason given by Cyclone for more than 5 years of delays on a product promised for a six month delivery.
I've read all the PRs and SEC filings since then, and I haven't found one.
Weird, huh? More than 5 years behind schedule, and not a single reason for it.
And not only have they failed to make promised deliveries to customers, but the heavily promoted water speed record boats and land speed record cars have never had real engines installed in them. Oh, they've had some of the non-functional mock-up engines in place for photo-ops, but nothing has ever moved under its own power. Not even a go-kart carrying a skinny kid.
Of course the answer is that the design just doesn't work. It depends on water lubrication, and water turns out to be a terrible lubricant. It's not physically possible to condense all the exhaust steam with the little, tiny condenser on the engine. The mechanisms required to operate the valves at the necessary speeds self-destruct in short order. The control system probably also won't work, but since they can't get the basic engine to run we'll never know about the controls.
The good news is that there is no shortage of stock available, and your pennies go a long way purchasing it.
