EVERETT, Wash. - Four employees at Boeing's Everett plant have been fired for drug violations following an internal investigation, company officials said.

"We can confirm today that four employees who worked at the Everett site facility were terminated from the company for violations of our drug-free workplace policy," Boeing spokesman Doug Alder Jr. said in a prepared statement issued Friday.

The company would not say what type of drugs were involved. Alder said the fired employees were using and selling drugs on company property.

"As a matter of company policy, we will not comment further on the details that led to this company action," Alder said in his statement. "Boeing has a zero-tolerance policy of violations of our drug free workplace program."

He said all work performed by the terminated employees was inspected or validated through normal processes by employees who were not involved.

Alder said workplace stand-downs will be conducted in some areas of the Everett plant to remind employees of the Boeing company's stringent drug-free standards.

"Our message to employees or families of employees is that if they know of someone with substance abuse issues to encourage the individual to come forward and to ask for help through Boeing's substance abuse help program," he said.

An internal memo from Boeing management to employees reminded them that the public puts its trust in the integrity of their products and work quality.

"Our customers, colleagues and the flying public put their trust and confidence in our products and services," said Alan May, vice president of Human Resources for Commercial Airplanes. "The actions of a few do not represent Boeing employees commitment to safety, quality and ensuring a compliant work environment. We are thankful for the individuals who brought this forward."
