It may not make sense to you, but it is a real possibility as we move through this year if they can't obtain financing through other means. Once a stock hits .0001/.0002 with this many shares, then options for financing start to dry up. It becomes less and less attractive for credible outside investors to take a chance.
When that happens, companies try a reverse split to hopefully make the share price more attractive. It seldom works without strong financials to back it up and that is why the price immediately starts a backward trend. You say it makes no sense...often that is not a criteria for the decision.
