The possibility of building ‘tiny’ homes (500 sq. ft. or less) in Colorado City was also raised during the citizen input portion of the meeting by Rod Stambaugh of La Junta, representing Sprout Tiny Homes. He explained that tiny homes are modern, energy efficient, and appeal to those just retiring, but that current ordinances do not allow tiny homes in most communities. He wants to change that. With Mr. Stambaugh’s initiative, Walsenburg has recently revised their ordinances to permit development of 30 tiny homes. Mr. Valdez explained that individual communities have their own covenants that owners must vote to change. Board Chair Jacque Wachob offered to talk with Mr. Stambaugh outside the meeting.
