Exxon purchased XTO in 2012, a company which got into hydraulic fracturing shale beds early on. But Exxon has stopped most activity at the company until they come up with in-house engineering and project standards.

Exxon CEO, Rex Tillerson, himself worked to stop a hydraulic fracturing project in his town in Texas until the company operating the project comes back with a plan which reduces the amount of truck traffic it would generate.

Having worked on a lot of similar projects, they can always be redesigned - drill site moved, traffic changed, design changed. It's all very adaptable. Being based in California Chevron employees are typically more in tune with this sort of thinking. It looks like even Exxon will become more attuned to listening with Tillerson.

We've run out of other people's Social Security taxes needed to subsidize our low income tax rates.
