Or IOT stoves in kitchens....or IOT power tools in the garage being hacked (literally). Or malware in poorly-secured (*) IOTs causing grid failures when large numbers of IOT devices are simultaneously powered-up.

(* Even full-blown computer networks continue to have security problems, whether because a hash algorithm is weak, or *nix flaws like Heartbleed, or backdoors inserted, or .... Now imagine a "SmartTootbrush" (ha!) with some Atom or ARM chip with Bluetooth connectivity. Perhaps in carry-on luggage, perhaps in cargo holds.)

But at least we'll have alerts like "Consumers are advised to ensure that "Kitchens of Tomorrow" with IOT appliances have manual ON/OFF switches on all appliances. Consult pages 67-96 of "The Internet of Everything for Dummies, Newly Revised 5th Edition."

Far-fetched? I don't see many people spending time learning to program their "smart" appliances with the latest IOT/Bluetooth connectivity. I see releases from Intel's Wind River and McAfee Associates subsidiaries about IOT security measures, but I still wouldn't trust any appliances that could be hacked, remotely turned-on, or need "patching" after installation. My mother learned just enough about their VCR to be able to record her favorite daytime t.v. shows on the same well-worn tape. I'm not sure many of us will bother to learn how to manage, program, debug, patch Internet of Everything home networks. I look around my house and can't see a single "thing" that would benefit from being part of an Internet of Things.

"Emergency Alert! Ownes of Whirlpool, Samsung, and Maytag IOT electric cooktops are urgently reminded to install the FD2107B patch to their IOT networks! A flaw has been discovered which has had a "Zero Day" exploit allowing hackers to remotely turn on the electric cooktops. Several house fires have already been reported when materials left near the cooktops were ignited."

And so on. The parodies write themselves.
