Not every company is a "screaming success." Sometimes all you can do is keep the doors open in a hostile market. To me, keeping the doors open and making payroll, providing sustenance to all your employees and their families, is success, but it may not scream. I have met a few of the baristas, and they seem to think he is the best boss they ever had.

A trader might think the PPS is the only important thing, but to a good CEO it is a second order metric.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot
strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring on
prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner
up by pulling the wage payer down.
