Patients may self-pay for treatment in Germany, but this has only very recently been a possibility. Trial sites which also serve as treatment facilities have only started coming online since late summer, and staff also only recently trained. The PR from March made it sound as though patients could self-pay immediately, but that wasn't the case. We don't know how many have self-paid already this quarter (in anticipation of vaccine), only that one has begun the process and there is a waiting list (which has likely grown to some 100 patients by now). A certain conversation between others led to the disclosure that 60 were on that list some time ago. The one who initiated therapy likely self-paid. This process is not quick initially, but should ramp up considerably.
