seems to me it's about the need to displace an explanation of current failure in favour of the appearance of a unicorn in the future magically to change wave's fortunes.

rather than deal with what is, imagine glory right around the blind corner.

keep telling folks we will reach the horizon any day now if only such and such happens, but it just keeps on retreating however far you sail.

wave's products haven't failed to sell because of standards. they have failed to sell because they have not checked the boxes customers want checked. and/or wave has not.

only once you accept this can you approach an understanding of wave and its prospects.

if wave succeeds, it will be because solms built a product customers want. if it doesn't, it is because he hasn't. it's his job to build something that is saleable. not in the future but now. it's quite simple.

he has staff with the expertise. it's his job to conform wave's products with relevant current standards. and with the internal security architectures of buyers. and with the hardware that is available. and with whatever else is required in a way that is scaleable, adaptable and attractive.

and then to grow wave's income.
