Bo addresses questions about potpourri pellets:

Many of you heard Maxine discuss the potpourri pellet product SCR is launching soon. I am assuming there could be some curiosity as to what this has to do with energy. Directly it has nothing to do with energy. Developing the ability to manufacture a paper pellet for the home fragrance industry accomplishes 2 things for us.

1. It is a highly profitable item. We can get nearly $200 per ton wholesale for wood pellets. The home fragrance pellets sell for $10,000 per ton wholesale. The costs are higher since they are packaged in 1 pound retail style packaging, but they are still a highly profitable item.

2. The knowledge SCR has gained developing this product opens up the paper pellet as an organic delivery system for a vast array of other chemicals, nutrients, etc. The first application for this new ability will be the agricultural industry. We will be able to incorporate micro nutrients, fertilizers, minerals, other organics, and any other beneficial nutrient or chemical needed by the farmer. The advantage is that these additives can be delivered to the soil in an organic delivery system that will break down in the farmers soil.

So the question remains, "What does it have to do with energy?" As a population we are increasingly moving to a biomass energy market. That movement in the market is tying the energy and agricultural markets together more every year. It will not be possible to be in one market without being in the other in the near future. At Kleangas we do not want to merely participate in that market, we want to lead it. The research being done at SCR makes that goal possible.
