Dellin Betances was certainly worth the wait and they need to develop from within.

The paradigm has shifted and the Yankees are no longer the team that can use their deep pockets to outbid the other teams. The trend by other clubs is to extend the contracts of their 20 something MVP caliber players (e.g. Mike Trout, Giancarlo Stanton, etc).

Otherwise, the Yankees will always find themselves selecting from a free agent talent pool of 30 plus players whose best days are behind them.
