Solar window coatings developer New Energy Technologies has announced important technical milestones towards market-ready, commercial products.
Mr. John Conklin, President and CEO, New Energy Technologies, Inc said that the company has now broken a number of technical barriers in order to raise the performance bar for both the power production and the aesthetics of see-through organic PV.
The company’s electricity-generating coatings now achieve power production 50-times greater than conventional PV solar modules when modelled for installation on tall towers. Other advances include increases in carbon dioxide offsets over conventional PV and the ability to generate electricity on see-through glass, thereby having the potential to enhance modern insulated commercial windows. At present, this is something that conventional solar technologies are unable to achieve.
The electricity-generating coats are also available in a range of attractive colour choices, something that is in high demand by commercial glass companies. New Energy Technologies also claims that the coatings are capable of producing power from natural and artificial light sources in direct, shaded, diffused, and reflected light conditions, unlike conventional solar PV which requires direct sunlight and suffers reduced performance in cloudy weather or in shaded areas. The coatings are also able to produce electricity from artificial light typically found in offices, hotels, and other buildings.
Manufactured using mostly organic materials (polymers), the coatings can be dissolved into liquid form and applied to a variety of surfaces such as flexible plastics and glass. Conventional PV solar uses complex materials that cannot be easily dissolved into a low-cost liquid form for manufacturing. The coatings are also being developed for high-speed and high-volume manufacturing processes, such as roll-to-roll (R2R) or large area sheet-to-sheet (S2S) equipment.

I've never claimed to have all the answers but feel i'm beginning to corner the market in questions worthy of solutions.
