Positive Earnings Report -- Wide Spread After Hours Above the Close

At 20:00 on 10/30 the after hours best bid/offer at Scottrade is 19.00 to 20.85 A wide spread like that indicates that broker/dealers want to only act as brokers not dealers -- they will facilitate trades by matching orders but do not want to take the risk of owning the stock, and especially, do not want to take the risk of selling the stock short.
