No MM's do not hold any inventory of penny, illiquid stock. The overwhelming majority of time, a MM will sell short and buy at or below the bid.

If there is a lot of consistent volume they may hit a stop loss knowing that the shares can be quickly flipped.

But to hold any inventory for a day or two, not happening.
