For a GPU, this is a perfectly valid approach if you don't care much about die area. For a CPU though, it doesn't help to add more cores when you in turn run into cache coherency issues and most software, especially for mobile, is not written in a way to use the additional cores.

Well, someone needs to tell the mobile world that, cause in the last four years it's gone from single core to dual core, to quad core to 2xquad core.

And, in reference to Apple, when you not only control the entire hardware, but also write the OS and set the app design rules, you can mate your CPU design and software design better than others.
