Chang has stated that the land used to grow food in China is too expensive to grow GKG. We also know that there is a huge amount of crop remainders there that can be used as feedstock cheaper than purchasing GKG. These 2 factors are related to where VSPC has been successful and may be partially explanatory as to why it has had difficulty gaining traction. If you look at the projects that VSPC has been selected for, they use land that either is not in use or cannot be used for growing food crops. Sagay said that they will be growing GKG on otherwise unusable land. In Nicaragua, it will be grown on land that is unsuitable for the key crop grown there. In South Africa GKG is going to be used to remediate land that cannot be used to grow food. GKG is also being used as a supplementary feedstock in those projects where there is available remainders, waste, bagasse and locally favored sources.
