HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) – As the nation does it best to keep the Ebola virus from spreading, one Hubbard lab has a solution to detect the virus quicker.

It is important to work quickly with an epidemic like Ebola.

“This is something that needs to be addressed yesterday,” said Michelle Durkin, lab director at NanoLogix in Hubbard.

Passengers on Frontier Flight 1143 have been notified that they have come in contact with someone who has the virus. But it takes two to 21 days to find out if someone even has the symptoms.

“That is the goal of the test, to detect it sooner before you have a full-fledged patient that is very ill,” Durkin said.

NanoLogix has a solution called the N-Assay, a kit that can instantly detect the virus within an hour or less.

Currently the N-Assay is under a pending patent. It now needs be tested by a Level 4 lab that can test for Ebola. NanoLogix is a Level 2 lab that can only test for food-borne illnesses and basic hospital illnesses.

The N-Assay will be designed for labs and hospitals, for private labs, pharmaceutical companies and anybody doing research on Ebola or looking to make a diagnosis.
