You can install a gas to electric unit within your home as it is done in Japan. The electric utilities don't like it because it will take customers away and the electric supply will be secondary. Again you would have gas service infrastructure to your home (Ex: NYC).

Think what you may.

Thomas Edison could not electrify the areas his team lit up without partnering with others. He did not invent the wall socket, plugs, etc. to perform the projects.

Don't you think other companies and universities have been working on the subject. There would need to be standardization, regulations, codes, etc.
