Aduro and ADXS have intellectual property founders who were collaborators on listeria-based vaccine development at Pennsylvania University.

The pair have gone different ways since but the foundation is the same.

Aduro...has attracted close attention for its use of a failed cancer vaccine--GVAX

GVAX, another in a long line failed allogeneic vaccines [vaccines made from cultured cancer cells as opposed to autologous - self-cancer - vaccines] was so predictable a failure that even this amateur predicted it.

It would be very foolish to deny the possibility of some adjuvant effect from another version of GVAX but I wouldn't bet a billion on it. Of course no one would ever be silly enough to give me a billion...

Very oddly, J&J has a history of making bad sidebets despite its enormous success in its core businesses.
