Almost all houses are built without external electric generators or infrastructure to accommodate them, but every year thousands of them are sold and hooked up to homes. Why do you think it would be difficult to hook up a fusion reactor, which is just another type of electric generator, to the power grids of apartment buildings, manufacturing facilities and large farming operations? Lockheed Martin claims they may have a prototype in 5 years. Why do you think it will take 30-50 years to commercialize. It took less than 10 years to develop the technology to go to the Moon. There is a huge amount of money to be made. The company has $40+ billion in revenues so they have the financial resources. If they have a prototype in 5 years, I believe they could have a version commercialized in 10 years.
