Armed Citizen Stops Man From Raping Victim
"my daughter would be dead right now..."
Police took a Michigan man into custody with the help of an armed citizen after the man beat and nearly raped a woman last month.
Jeffrey McSwain, Jr. trapped a 21-year-old woman in a house in Flint, Michigan, senselessly beating her before an armed citizen ordered him out of the house at gunpoint. McSwain attempted to flee the scene but was tackled by the citizen and, with the help of an undercover officer, was held down until police arrived.
The victim was found around 2 PM local time on September 26, according to Michigan Live.
After the incident transpired, neighbors were quick to offer clothing and comfort, as she was found walking bloodied and naked in the streets. The victim has not been identified for her own protection. Her mother told Michigan Live that “she got lucky.”
“If it wasn’t for all these people who cared enough to help her, and not turn the other cheek like so many people would, my daughter would be dead right now.”
The victim’s mother also said that her daughter is still struggling emotionally and physically from the incident, and still has bruises and some loose teeth. She had been walking home from a store close by when the incident took place.
Flint Police arrested and charged McSwain with one count of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. The District Court in Flint ruled McSwain will stand trial on the charge, facing 10 years in prison.
