Like you, I am hoping that GKG's role within the project grows and that it leads to other land remediation projects. Selectra will certainly be trying to lead the way there. However, these are just possibilities that may or may not happen.

The sugar beets will not be used for food because the land that it will be growing on is full of toxic compounds that will be absorbed into the plants. The plan is to burn the plants to create electricity and dispose of the ash containing the toxic compounds. I hope that over time Selectra and Harmony Gold come to the conclusion that the GKG is superior for these purposes than sugar beets. However, sugar beets is a locally supported commodity so the decision is politically influenced.
