A bad inaccuracy here:

the Black Death that killed a third of all people in Europe and the Middle East in the three years from 1337 to 1340 appears to have been a “hemorrhagic fever” similar to Ebola.

Not sure where the author of that piece got this idea, but the Black Death was caused by a bacterium, Pasturella pestis, since renamed Yersina pestis, and is also known as bubonic plague. You can do a search for it if you want good and accurate information. Here is a place to start:

There is no similarity between bubonic plague and ebola, other than the idea that ebola might be a cause of a pandemic similar to the plague. This is not probable given the state of modern medicine, but that does not negate the possibility of such a pandemic in areas of the world where modern medicine has not become established, such as most of Africa.
