A quick story of out wonderful University of Minnesota in my home state.
Zebra Muscles are invading our lakes and rivers in Mionnesota. A few years back they first appeared in the St. Croix River, a smallish river that feeds into the Mississippi. The U of M had no clue back 15 or so years ago what to do. We had a much warmer and drier August that raised the water temperature of the river 5 degrees above normal and the Zebra Muscles died. The U had no clue that was going to happen, oh well. The problem now is that the big lakes can't be heated naturally or artificially to kill them in the lakes. They are experimenting with chemicals in some of the smaller lakes. The Zrbra Muscles eat the algae that smaller fish eat and the bigger fish don't have as many smaller fish to eat, etc. etc.
