Big insurance, big hospital and big data will work together to keep the medical record at an arm's length away from the patient.

The patient needs to take charge of their own health, like they do in many other countries. Big institutions are more concerned about retaining patients in their system and keeping out of their ERs.

Patients' having their own record opens the door for communication with their personal doc and others for consultation, not just the ones that the insurance co or hospital 'tells' the patient where they can go.

Docs answer to the patient, not the insurance co or hospital. One door to getting there is having the patient with their own pmr. The patient OWNS their data not the insurance co or hospital...
