About 3 months ago we just missed hitting the biggest bear I ever seen in person including the zoo. I was clueless to how fast that huge bear could run. My respect for that fact went WAY UP!

For their air bags to go off they had to hit a big one.

The last sentence in this article amazes me considering the air bags went off.

Be interesting to know what they were driving as well as how fast they were going.

OAKVILLE, Wash. -- One person was hurt Saturday evening when a car crashed into a bear along U.S. 12, fire officials said.

A man and woman were driving just north of Oakville around 9 p.m. when they crashed into the bear, triggering the air bags to go off, said Shawn Burdett with Grays Harbor Fire District No. 1.

The woman driving the car was able to stay on the road and get the car safely to the shoulder, but her male passenger suffered significant facial injuries from the air bag deployment. He had to be airlifted to Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver for treatment, Burdett said. The woman wasn't hurt.

Officials say the bear wandered away from the scene and they don't know how injured it might be.
