This Guy Was Fired For Answering A Simple Question The Way Every American Has A Right To
“...many employers may not know what rights it affords their employees.”

Gun rights advocates have long lamented the ongoing assault against the Second Amendment by many activists across the nation. For one Indiana man, however, the issue hit especially close to home when he was reportedly fired for being a law-abiding gun owner.

According to The Times of Northwest Indiana, Nino Ferlaino worked for the property owners’ association of a gated community for more than two decades before a supervisor asked him if he carried a gun. While Ferlaino explained that he never carried a firearm on the job, he reportedly confirmed that he did own one.

A lawsuit filed by Ferlaino against the Lakes of the Four Seasons community asserts he was fired the same day for allegedly violating a zero-tolerance policy regarding firearms.

State law, however, affords licensed handgun owners the freedom to bring firearms to work, though they may be required to secure such weapons in their vehicles. Additionally, the law prohibits employers from asking personal questions regarding any employee’s potential status as a gun owner.

Marissa McDermott, Ferlainos’s attorney, contends her client’s supervisors were in clear violation of the law when they terminated his employment.

She confirmed that the “law in question is relatively new,” noting that “many employers may not know what rights it affords their employees.”

Nevertheless, McDermott feels Ferlaino has a strong case which, to her knowledge, is the first of its kind since the new state provision was passed in 2011. Her client is suing for punitive damages as well as expenses associated with filing the suit. Additionally, he wants to make sure other employees do not experience the same mistreatment he contends he did simply for owning a firearm.
