Not sure they can legalize but maybe they could de-criminalize it. There are Treaties with other countries that would make it difficult to make it legal in one fell swoop.

It should be reduced from being a Schedule 1 Narcotic this November which might allow most of the benefits it would receive from being legal. The main one being access to the financial systems that make commerce profitable and easy. It is already recognized by the SEC which I believe is a Federal Agency. It's kind of in that gray area now where it's hard to get that warm fuzzy feeling.

Some people are trying to take some moral stand against it and are using that to justify keeping it down. The Stock Market hasn't been it's friend as we've noticed. Some of the resistance I see is to the culture that has been providing it illegally for the past ??? years. The more it is seen as main stream, the more it can be tolerated and absorbed into daily life. The Industry needs a makeover. Images of Hippies running around going "yeah Man!," aren't going to help.

It has medical value. It makes some people very happy. A lot of the music everyone enjoys was made by people using it. It is part of our society whether we like it or not. We might as well make the best of it and let it take it's place alongside FDA approved drugs, beer, wine and alcohol.
