Apple won't release something until it's perfect. Since they're obviously (patent applications) still heavily developing the technology, they simply may not have yet been able to produce BMG iPhone casings up to their standards.

As for the Apple Watch, I've yet to see any explanation—other than a patented LiquidMetal alloy—for how Apple managed to come up with an 18K gold formulation that's twice as strong as traditional alloys jewelers have been using for centuries. It seems likely to me that LM is in the low volume, high cost gold Apple Watch.
