“There is going to be a tremendous number of new devices that come online, an immense number, actually,” Steve Mollenkopf, Qualcomm’s CEO, told developers attending a company conference held in San Francisco on Thursday and Friday. He said Qualcomm wants to help developers get ready for the coming wave of pervasive computing by offering a suite of tools that make it easy to add capabilities like communication, computer vision and wireless charging to household items simply by embedding a Qualcomm chipset.
Qualcomm dominates the market for the chips used in mobile phones, and the San Diego-based company is intent on carving out a similarly preeminent position in what its executives like to call “The Internet of Everything.”
