Researchers are hoping to release "mini GM humans" to be used by 2017 for drug trials and other experiments.

The artificial humans will be the size of a smartphone microchip with simulated interacting organs. They will be used to test toxicity response to substances to be absorbed by the intestinal tract or inhaled. The theory is that this will eliminate the necessity to use laboratory animals. That part sounds good, but we can’t help but wonder where this technology could lead – intentionally or accidentally..
