Freedom from absurdly low income taxes on the wealthiest Scottish citizens, freedom from Tory demanded Social Security and Medicare cuts and freedom from banks running the English economy are all good things. They have been, and continue to be the driving forces behind Scottish autonomy.
Scottish autonomy began the day Margaret Thatcher imposed her ill-conceived Poll Tax in 1990 to shift taxes from the wealthy onto the Middle Class and poor, which she promoted as "the Community Charge". Anti-Thatcher riots began in London and quickly spread to Northern England and Scotland. Fewer than 12% of Scottish voters supported Thatcher.
Not surprisingly, a photo of the intensely disliked late Lady Thatcher was the most popular poster in Scotland promoting the "Yes Vote".
We've run out of other people's Social Security taxes needed to subsidize our low income tax rates.
