Almost never are they given together because -- for anesthesia --the propofol does what the benzos do, only better, according to the anesthesiologists. Respiratory depression is a big deal, most people just aren't aware of it. We are reluctant to use too much opiates or benzos in some acute situations due to concerns about RD.
