Your comparison is not quite accurate as 17 tons/acre converts to 413 tons/hectare (a ton is different from a metric ton). Still, your point stands. If what your source is saying about Napier grass is true it is 21% more productive. Truthfully, I find that hard to believe as they both seem to grow to similar heights. It is possible that Napier grows faster or that they are planting it in a more productive manner. The recent UCANR study indicates that GKG's yield can be substantially improved depending on how it is grown. We could be hearing the GK yield numbers increased soon. Of course that study was conducted in a hot, dry climate. Who knows what significance it has for GKG growing in a tropical climate.
