On this you are exactly correct. If I obtain inside information on, say, IBM or Apple and then publicly disclose it to certain people, the information has now been publicly exposed. The bell cannot be unwrung. The genie cannot be put back into the bottle.

But..... I am still legally liable for releasing inside information on said company
