There's a joke about the poor wife whose abusive alcoholic husband dies at the hospital. 2 weeks after the funeral she returns to the hospital to inquire how her husband is doing; she is informed that he died several weeks earlier.

This pattern repeats; the bereaved coming in every several weeks and the hospital staff repeatedly informing her that the husband was dead and that there had been nothing the could do to save him.

Finally, out of concern for the woman, and in a growing frustration with her visits, they send out the senior doctor to meet with her. The doctor reasserts that her husband had passed, that the hospital did everything they could do to save him, but to no avail; he died.

Was the woman having issues with grief? Was she not understanding that the man, her husband had passed and would not be coming back?
