Partnership With Nokia Revisited.

Now that Vuzix is already partnered with giants like Chinese Lenovo and European SAP, the next logical step for the company is to strengthen their already existing relationship with Finnish Nokia. And for Nokia, with their newly-acquired pile of Microsoft cash and no longer a cell-phone business to take care of, it makes just as much sense to wholly focus their attention on what is shaping out to be the hottest sector in the years to come -- smart glasses and wearables.

However, in my opinion, now that Nokia shareholders overwhelmingly approved the sale of Nokia mobile division to Microsoft, as did most of world’s regulatory agencies – the decision to abandon the project is the logical outcome. According to the terms of the contract, Nokia is not allowed to sell phones, smartphones or tablets under its name for the next 2 years. They could theoretically create a mobile Android device under a new brand, but given the level of competition in the market, competency, manufacturing, logistical and distribution base that is transferring to Microsoft, it makes little sense. Instead, according to CTech, Nokia has some big plans for its CTO office R&D activities. It will focus on the new emerging technologies like wireless power transmission, low power electromagnetic energy generation, flexible displays, graphene sensors and augmented reality to enter the newly forming wearable computing field. The current Nokia smart watch project may be going to Microsoft, but the more far off wearables are staying. In fact, Nokia smart glasses may already be on the product roadmap for 2015 release.

An illustration to Nokia's vision can be seen in the video below:

Moreover, Vuzix is an integral part of that vision. In fact, a screenshot from the Nokia's video is included in VUZI's latest investor presentation (Page 24).

So what company do you think might be the next big partner announced by Vuzix? Hmmm... Or perhaps Nokia will just skip the partnership step all together, and shell out a billion or so of that Microsoft cash to simply buy out Vuzix and all their patents? Time will tell. One thing is certain - 2015 will be a spectacular year for Vuzix.

This post is my personal opinion. I do not provide investment advice.
