Yeah Imp you make a valid point. It looks like Solar3D just used "commercially available equipment" from Panasonic. I haven't found anything which indicates there was any direct communication or working relationship between Solar3D and Panasonic. It's possible Solar3D used the equipment and Panasonic didn't even know about it.
But the point still stands that Panasonic has had this 3D cell patent since 2003, and has done nothing with it. They haven't created any state of the art 3D solar power systems, or anything really.
That being said I wouldn't mind a partnership with Panasonic, why not? They're a big, massive, international company which could get the manufacturing job done, plus they already have the 3D cell patent. Seems like a win win.
