We do need additional drugs ...Vascepa for example ....there is residual risk , specifically elevated TG's ,that is not treated well with Statin drugs

Statins lower inflammation , Vascepa adds to that .

Dr Ballantyne ( who I sure hope you and STS are familiar with since he ran Amarins Anchor trial ) did a deep dive into the findings of the Jupiter trial ...the trial that made the Statin Crestor a blockbuster drug .

He found that even if your LDL was under 130 BUT your hsCRP ( inflammation ) level was above 2 ...there was still substantial benefit from prescribing Statins

From memory in this patient group ...1 less heart attack per 27 patients followed for 6 yrs
So yes if you are the 1 in this 27 ..Statin is the miracle drug

As regards to side effects ...yes they exist , about 20% of those prescribed are intolerant to Statins , as many as 40% of those prescribed dont stay on them every day of every month --- you weighs the risks

Vascepa may allow many to at least lower their Statin dose , add Vascepa and still recieve benefit ....many on this board appear to
be trying that

Others , such as myself , will be on max dose of both
