1 MEGAWATT plant generates 8760 MEGAWATT HOURS per year
(Above Megawatt hours do not include shut down for planned maintenance)

“KGET” producing 2.4 MW (MEGAWATTS) of electricity 24 hours 7 days a week produces approximately 24,528 MEGAWATT HOURS per year

(What does a megawatt cost?) (What does a megawatt hour cost?)

You don't pay for 'watts'. The 'watt' is the rate or speed at which you use energy from the outlet, so the cost depends not only on how fast you use it, but also on how long you use it. Domestic electric rates change drastically depending on where you live, how much you use, and even what time of day you use it. But let's take for an example, 25¢ per kilowatt hour (KWH). That means that if you're drawing energy from the outlet at the rate of 1,000 watts, you'll owe the electric company a quarter if you keep it up for an hour. 1 MEGAWATT = 1 million watts = 1,000 kilowatts. At the same cost of a quarter per KWH, your MEGAWATT would cost: -- About $4.16 for 1 minute. -- About $125 for 1/2 hour. -- About $6,000 for a whole 24-hour day.

Electricity Prices Soar Past $200 per Megawatt-hour as Heat Wave Hits Eastern United States
Prices high as $672.41 per megawatt-hour. Prices held steady above $200 per megawatt-hour for most of the daytime hours and spiked higher numerous times over the course of the record demand day. Average hourly prices reached as high as $466.07 as temperatures peaked .(see GRAPHS)
