A most interesting factoid though is this graph of top OEMs' relative profitability at the time, found here on page 14:

looks like just about none of the six billion dollars some here would characterize as price adjustments to Dell ever found their way to consumers, but did provided Dell with fat profits.

Had Intel spread those discounts evenly I would suspect much more would have gone into the pockets of consumers. IMO Intel should have looked around and decided "we're probably a monopoly why don't we just cut our list prices, stay out of trouble, and give consumers a break". but that would be tantamount to setting aside their big stick, of which they are so proud.

Elmer was right that bribing Dell was not a good idea, but he has the reasons (all external to Intel) wrong. It was just wrong on the face of it.

I am amused at the number of Intel partisans who have not read the complaint. Like a drug addict's enabling mother, they want to know the truth but just don't want to hear anybody badmouthing their darling baby.
