happy camp is not so happy tonight. lived there for 15 years as the silviculturist, timber, and fuels guy and i remember the battles at the interdisciplinary meetings where we had the funds available and one specialist or another would block the underburning of those exact slopes that are now being deforested by being burned under conditions where the intensity level is so high that the overstory is killed. Whatever. one of my understudies, todd drake, took these shots tonight. epic work. the home where i raised my kids is in the lower right corner of the first picture.
