I guess you invest $500 knowing that most likely you have wasted your money, but if you do this with 50 companies, maybe, just maybe, one of them won't go belly up and you'll get a nice return.

$500 * 49 deadbeats = zero (loss of $24,500)
$500 * one lucky superstar = profit of $50,000.

End result - up $25,000

Interest approach but not my style.
